Met Gala 2018

I’m sure there are many of you out there who have seen this event where A list celebrities are gowned in the most outrageous outfits and thought, ‘What’s it all about?’

The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit.

Now that we have that straight, I guess it makes sense to see some of our favourite celebrities’ most weird and wonderful attire. My question: creation is wonderful, but can one attend the event in theme and in style?

This year’s theme: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”. Let’s take a look at who brought the “Amen” and who needed to pray five Hail Mary’s for their sinful taste.

Blake Lively in Atelier Versace brought a Renaissance-inspired regality to the event with this stunning gown. Rich in texture, hue and sparkles, it just shone style from head to toe.

Enchanted is the way to describe Diane Kruger in this saintly mid blue Prabal Gurung gown. Adding the touch of gold embroidery delivered a purity of sweet innocence. Her netted headpiece brought the whole angelic look perfectly together!

Andreea Diaconu in Michael Kors dazzled in this structured gown, head to toe in black sequins. The simplicity of the gown with the added jewelled crucifix delivered the Met’s theme in pure elegance.

Another showstopper in its simplistic form - Kerry Washington in this dazzling micro sequin Ralph Lauren gown.

Paying tribute to Joan of Arc, there is just something about this creative chain mail gown that I just simply love. Armoured in an Atelier Versace silver gown, Zendaya Coleman brought a sense of style and strength to the carpet in a dominant but effortless way.

In a column gown decorated with religious icons, Stella Maxwell in Moschino stayed true to the theme of the night. With printed artwork depicting visages of the Madonna, she too was picture-perfect on the night.

One must give credit to the creative and talented Jeremy Scott on a dramatic, regal display in his design that Cardi B wore. But seriously, what was going on with her chest area? I wasn’t sure if it was her bottom popping out or if she was delivering two loaves of bread!!! (Insert emoji “shocked” face)
