The Wardrobe Edit!

The wardrobe - a tall cupboard in which a person's entire collection of clothes is hung in. These days whether it’s a stand-alone, built or walk in, a jam packed wardrobe full of clothes with no sense of order is overwhelming!

Introducing the wardrobe edit! It opens the doors to a hassle-free ‘dress in style’ experience, achieved by evaluating your clothing and determining together which pieces work in a functional yet inspiring wardrobe. In doing so, this will remove that all time question of “What to wear? What to wear?”

This blog goes out to my lovely client Jenni, whose wardrobe, at first glance, looked to be well ordered… but then, looks can be deceiving. As I started to go through it with her, I discovered many items in there that really weren’t the right shape, colour or style for her.

Jenni has a gorgeous hour glass body shape. The hourglass figure has a wider bust and thighs, in contrast to a thin waist. This curvy shape benefits from showing off their best assets and creating balance.

Let’s take a look at some of the items I discovered during Jenni’s wardrobe edit that clearly were the incorrect cut or shape for her hour glass figure.

This off the shoulder top gives Jenni no shape what-so-ever. This style gives her a square look, not allowing her to show off her gorgeous figure.

The same goes for this khaki top, perfect hue for her, though wrong shape. This style of top makes her look larger in the top section, hiding her naturally stunning silhouette.

As we mature, certain patterns can make us look older than we are. This black floral top for example does just that to Jenni, dismissing the vibrant energy she possesses

So after examining her items of clothing one by one, and educating Jenni on why I culled these items, a large bagful of clothes was achieved, ready to be donated. Jenni was left with a fully functional and organised wardrobe.

“I feel great having culled the clothes that didn’t suit me. I learnt what does and how to wear the things I did have and how to put lots of great looks together. I used to think I had nothing to wear; now I feel like I have heaps of options!”

A wardrobe edit is a fun and liberating experience that will leave you feeling confident about the choices you can make to help you look and feel amazing about yourself. It’s about working with what you have, determining your assets and discovering how to show them off! The valuable information that you will gain during a Wardrobe Edit will guide you on how to better dress for your body shape, how to disguise any problem areas and most importantly, having an objective view to help you make improved choices!

As my all-time favourite designer Tom Ford quoted - “Dressing well is a form of good manners.”
