The Trends from Men’s Fashion Week SS19
Whilst here in Australia we are experiencing cold, wet, wintry weather, our European cities are bursting with summer sun (so not fair). From the UK to Milano, Men’s SS19 fashion week was held, showcasing the latest trends for us dapper men.
Though it’s a fashion year away, let’s put the dark grey cloudy days aside and take a look at what bright and exciting trends are in store for us chaps!
Designers demonstrated that streetwear or even athleisure, could be teamed with many and diverse inspirations. Whether it be influenced by retro, rock, super stylish or with military details, streetwear is still riding high as a key trend for Spring/Summer next year. Let’s take a look at some of the outstanding designers who triumphed streetwear.
Tacky tourists and nostalgia of his youth growing up on the Italian Riviera in the Eighties and Nineties was the theme behind Massimo Giorgetti’s MSGM collection. The collection comprised short-sleeved shirts exhibiting digital prints, loud logoed and neons with displays of Hawaiian-style floral acid prints and tie dyed statements amongst the mix. Though referenced as a “nerdy” look, the designer added this style to his collection with high-waisted jeans and sandals worn with funky high socks. Though his chunky sneakers with socks won me!
Dsquared2 revamped a military theme in their collection with field & bomber jackets, along with combat pants, being the focus of the season’s silhouette. Injected with maxi utility pockets, zippers and patchwork inserts, they also added bold colour blocking which gave a geometric feel to the Nineties baggy pant.
A statement hue which I’m so happy to see making its way next year… they call it mellow yellow. Though it has been a lesser-spotted colour in menswear, shades of yellows across the spectrum will be influencing the catwalks this coming season. The yellow pallet ranged from vibrant to lemon to canary and even butter. With the influence of this hue shining in Spring/Summer ’19, it’s bound to go bananas!
