Tux it in Style!

Need an outfit for a formal occasion but you’re not big on gowns? Never fear, the Tux is here!

The Tux suit is distinguished primarily by satin or grosgrain facings on the jacket's lapels and buttons and a similar stripe along the out seam of the trousers. It is traditionally worn by men for formal events such as ‘black tie’ and ‘gala’, accompanied with formal shirt, formal low cut waistcoat, black bow tie and formal shoes.

Over the years, we have seen the evolution of the tuxedo. In 1966 where the genius French designer Yves Saint Laurent created 'Le Smoking', the first ever tuxedo-style suit made for women. The name was simply derived from the French equivalent of the British term for a tuxedo.

The tux, in itself, makes for a very powerful statement - the reason YSL created such designs, to empower women through clothing!

Now I know that wearing one might seem a little intimidating for some women, however this really shouldn't be something to fear. The tux should be seen on par with the little black dress, the most accessible go-to outfit to dress in for your stylish event!

There are numerous ways you can make the tux work for you, being sexy, feminine or as demure as you would like. A popular version as seen in the lime light of celebrities is the plunging tuxedo jacket with no shirt underneath. To elevate this look to a sexier one, add strands of jewels. The traditional way, with a formal shirt, in cotton or silk, can simply be buttoned all the way to the top or accompanied with a feminine bow.

The pant on the other hand can be worn either skimming the floor or cigarette style, hugging the leg to a slim, tapered bottom.

Although known for evening wear attire, there is nothing stopping you from pairing the tux jacket with a fitted pair of denim jeans or leather pants for that rock, chic look. Or vice versa, a tailored fitted denim or leather jacket together with a satin striped pant. For the more daring woman, a pair of tailored shorts, fabric or leather!

So whatever your personal preference is for this timeless and classic look, make sure you own it!

Maurizio ;-)
